TELEVIDEO INTRODUCES INTEGRATED WINDOWS®-BASED TERMINAL/DISPLAY UNITS
TeleCLIENT™ TC7150 and TeleCLIENT TC7170 Offer Cost-Effective Windows-Based Network Computing With Superior Display Technology
March 19, 1999 - TeleVideo, Inc. (NASDAQ: TELV ), pioneers in network computing, announced TeleCLIENT TC7150 and TeleCLIENT TC7170, integrating the fastest, most powerful, cost-effective Windows®-based terminals with TeleVideo's 15-inch and 17-inch monitors. The integrated terminal/display units offer enterprises a single vendor solution for their thin-client needs. The new Windows-based terminals lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) of networked environments by reducing network administration and increasing security.
"TeleCLIENT TC7150 and TeleCLIENT TC7170 both offer an ideal all-in-one workstation solution for enterprises that utilize a client/server-based network computing environment," said Dr. Philip Hwang, Chairman and CEO of TeleVideo, Inc. "We have integrated our award-winning display technology to give companies the easiest migration path to this superior mode of business computing."
"TC7150 and TC7170 are the best choices for healthcare, government, retail and other task oriented client/server based environments," said Kevin Yang, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at TeleVideo, Inc. "The compact designs of the terminals are perfect for situations where there is limited workspace, yet requiring strong processing capabilities." TeleCLIENT TC7150 and TeleCLIENT TC7170 are the fastest "Powered by Microsoft Windows CE" Window-based terminals on the market, accelerated by a powerful 233MHz, upgradeable to 300 MHz, Media GXm processor from Cyrix. They feature TeleVideo's 15-inch and 17-inch CRT monitor displays respectively. Both integrated terminals empower users to access and manage Windows NT-based business critical transaction processing, point-of sale (POS), help and reservations desk applications - all within the familiar Microsoft Windows environment. In addition, users may access the Internet to perform more extensive business-to-business services and run multiple sessions to utilize Windows and traditional legacy applications.
The Microsoft Windows CE operating system also allows the TC7150 and TC7170 to run any Windows-compatible software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite. The Microsoft CE Operating System and TeleCLIENT network set-up wizard are embedded on an 8MB local flash disk, which is upgradeable and re-programmable either locally or remotely via Ethernet download. System administrators may choose the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) that executes along Microsoft NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, or the Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) protocol through Citrix MetaFrame or WinFrame server operating systems to best fit their needs.
The TC7150 and TC7170's innovative, functional and modular designs provide an ideal migration path for character-based terminals and PCs. TeleCLIENT TC7150 will be available May 1 worldwide through resellers and systems integrators. Suggested list pricing for the 233MHz version of the TC7150 is $849. TeleCLIENT TC7170 will be available June 1 worldwide through resellers and systems integrators. Suggested list pricing for the 233MHz version of the TC7170 is $969.
